what a great post - thank you so much for the credit on the note! your analysis is truly on point. i totally agree that substack can become a goldmine if developed properly, so i hope they start listening to their users.
by the way, would you mind sharing the link to my note being shared on reddit? i don’t use the platform, and now i’m really curious!
Hi! I'm a product manager, too, so I was pumped to be tagged in this! I saw Substack was hiring a PdM, maybe you should apply (half joking?). I'm so glad I found you because one of the first things I did when I joined was look for product resources and most of what I found wasn't active. So an unintended consequence of all of this is that I found you!
Substack offers the best of three worlds: newsletters, blogs, and online communities. It reminds me of the old-school blogging days when blogs had comments (likes and shares came later), a "blog roll," and RSS feeds. It's a bit like seeing an old friend after many years apart. That's why I love it. To your point, however - i.e., the point of this compilation - I get that many people want many things. I'm sure the Substack powers that be have (or will have) some of these in the development roadmap. But, for me, for now, I'm pretty happy with the way things work.
We want this to be a different platform than anything that resembles modern "social media". We want to this to be a space with more writers of different kinds, not just non-fiction.
And we want to keep having meaningful conversations without diluting (or polluting) them with mind-numbing, brain-rotting, shortform, "viral" content.
From a PM perspective, this is actually such a fun activity. But it's definitely true, even a Now, Next, Later product roadmap that many companies have adapted to build trust with their users is such a good way to provide transparency between Substack and its users.
I came here also to get out of search bubbles. To find new things to read. And substack have done exactly what I came here to get away from. My feed is in a search bubbles, and I'm bored again...

Thank YOU! Your note was the inspiration.
I looked for that link, but can't seem to find it anymore, should have said it. It was a discussion about viral notes.
Karo, this is amazing! I’m blown away by your creativity, research, and ambition. I’m proud of you. 👏🏼
Thank you so much, it means a lot coming from you!!!

Jax, I'm glad you you did! I had the same problem when I joined. I just subscribed to you🤗

That's a great point. I also love it. And I want to keep loving it.
i just don't want them going back on what their front page says tbh cuz to promise one thing and then to act another is like asking for trouble
I STRONGLY agree with the "no reels" sentiment.

This is the first time I've ever been mentioned in a post that I wasn't like... contributing or something in 😂
But please!!! Editing features will make life so much easier! 🤣
Agreed!
Thank you for tagging me, and yes to lots of this. And to a POETRY tab!!!
Thank you for taking the time to read it!
Yes, and — can we get the good stuff without turning this place into TikTok for Thought Leaders?
- Markdown on mobile: I don’t need rich text, I need righteous syntax and fewer formatting meltdowns on the subway.
- Offline mode: For planes, forests, or anytime I pretend I’m going off-grid but still want to re-read my own post like a narcissist.
- Thematic filters: Let me browse “melancholy banger” or “unhinged genius” instead of whatever the algo thinks is trending.
- One-click social share: I want to post it on Twitter, Threads, LinkedIn, and whatever Elon breaks next—*without* needing a degree in meta tags.
Yes! And your comment would be officially ranked #1 under the unhinged genius filter🤗. I love it.
I am glad you put it together ! Thanks for taking the time and sharing credits with writers.
Thank you Yogesh🤗
Thanks for your words and engagement on the topic.
Thank you too!

Thank you so much Anna Imagination!
I came here to get away from search bubbles and the same stuff being thrown at me each day. I was bored of YouTube suggesting the same over and again.
And now substack, is doing the same.... I am bored all over again.
I came here for different topics and new ideas. I stead dive ended up in a bubble.worse than YouTube...
I came here also to get out of search bubbles. To find new things to read. And substack have done exactly what I came here to get away from. My feed is in a search bubbles, and I'm bored again...
So many good ideas, well done everyone who contributed. I'm now tempted to add some of my ideas here as well!
Yes, please do!!! You can even post them as comments here and I’ll incorporate into the post:)
Thanks for the tag. I was just thinking out loud and surprised that many people agreed about inbox clearing!
My pleasure Kaidan!
